Dear Friends,

Last November, I joined Team In Training, sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The society's mission is to train people to participate in endurance events in order to raise money to help cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Since November, I have cycled thousands of miles, met amazing people - both honorees and volunteers, and participated in two seasons with Team In Training.

In May, my father was diagnosed with colon cancer. The prognosis was not good. Initially, they planned to treat the disease with a newer, more effective form of chemotherapy, but my dad waited too long before seeking a diagnosis, and the cancer had spread too far. On July 2nd, 2006, cancer took his life. The new chemo that could have saved him, had the disease been detected sooner, has its roots in research funded by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

I recently signed up for a third consecutive season with Team In Training - this time as a mentor. I continue to ride and train in his memory, in honor of those who have fought the battle and won and in memory of those who lost. I ride so that, someday, the words "terminal" and "cancer" will never have to be uttered in the same sentence.

To do this, however, I need your support. You can donate to this cause in either of two ways:

  1. To donate online via credit card (preferred), use the following secure link: https://www.active.com/donate/tntsvmb/ColinKelly

  2. To donate via personal check, please make the check out to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and mail it to me at:
    Colin Kelly
    5848 Allen Ave
    San Jose, CA 95123

All donations are tax deductible. Anyone contributing $25 or more will be mailed a receipt from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Remember, all contributions do make a difference, regardless of size. A minimum of 75% of your donation will go directly toward fulfilling the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's goals.

Also, many companies have a Matching Gift program that will match employee contributions, so please take a moment to see if yours does. Send a copy of the corporate matching form to me. Include “TNT Silicon Valley, Colin Kelly, Honolulu Century 2006” in the gift or program designation field if the form is online. (The GivingStation ID for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Silicon Valley chapter is 377111.)

Thank you for taking the time to read this. And, on behalf of our honorees, thank you for your support.

Colin Kelly
